I am delighted to tell you that we have some new faces contributing to the blog here, and I’ll be introducing them over the next week or two. First, I’d like you to meet Zoe.
Zoe is an English girl who currently resides in Barcelona. She learned to sew a bit from her mother as a child, and rediscovered clothing design as a creative outlet as a young adult, ending up studying Fashion Design at University. After University, she worked for a while in the clothing industry before becoming disenchanted with it.
She considers many of the practices of the manufacturing industry damaging and irresponsible, and loves that sewing and the handmade can play a role in releasing us from the trappings of consumer culture. She aims for self-sufficiency, and hopes to inspire others to continue sewing, and to think about what and why they buy.
Zoe is inspired by the Make Do and Mend practices fueled by the world wars, and the self-sufficiency movements of the 60s and 70s. Aesthetically, she says, “I guess I also most relate to these periods, and clothing from the mid 50s to the mid 70s really float my boat. I love trying to fuse stylistic elements of these periods into my creations.”
She is clearly a woman after my own heart, so please check out her first post and welcome her to the blog!
Next up is Rose Deniz, who will be introducing herself tomorrow.
